About Serve Platt Park Church

The mission of Platt Park Church is “helping people become passionate, devoted followers of Christ.” Our mission could also be summed up like this: Love God, Love others, Do something. That’s why one of our core practices is serving: putting the needs of others ahead of our own. We focus on serving together in our church, city and world.

If you are interested in serving within our church community, check out the options below and then message the leader to be added to the group. Thank you!
  • HOSPITALITY TEAM -- Participate in the planning and preparation for New Guest Lunches and other special events held at the church.
  • BARISTA TEAM -- Create an environment of warmth and hospitality as you prepare and serve coffee and bagels on Sunday mornings. 
  • COMMUNITY CARE -- Do you love to help others? We have a volunteer group that exists to come alongside community members in times of need. You can serve on this team in any of the following ways:
    • Meal Train -- Provide a home-cooked meal (or freshly prepared restaurant dinner!) for those in the PPC community with a short-term meal need.
    • Community Connection -- Making people feel known at PPC by face-to-face visits, phone or video calls, writing a note to someone (or texting them).
    • Prayer Chain -- Receive weekly prayer requests via email, and commit to pray independently for the needs of our community.
    • Prayer Ministry -- Face-to-face prayer with those wanting personal prayer for their request.
    • Financial Needs -- Address the financial needs of people who request assistance and determine whether or how to help them.
    • Practical Needs -- Help those in the PPC community who have limited skills, time, strength, or equipment to perform simple tasks.
  • SMALL GROUP LEADER -- Co-lead a small group on Sunday morning or during the week. Our small groups run on a trimester system, meeting for three months with one month off. We will be off for the months of April, August, and December.
  • LABOR OF LOVE TEAM -- One Saturday morning a month we get together for coffee & donuts and then work on projects around the church. Our historic building is over 100 years old -- thank you for helping keep it beautiful!
  • SUNDAY MORNING OPERATIONS -- Help with one or more of the following areas:
    • SET UP TEAM -- Help behind-the-scenes to support the stage team and ensure Sunday mornings run smoothly.
    • MUSICIANS/VOCALISTS -- Serve on the worship team on Sunday mornings, sharing your gift of music. (Audition required)
    • SLIDE PRESENTER -- Support the stage team and congregation by running slides during services. No previous experience needed!
    • LIVESTREAM -- Learn how to run the livestream video system so people can watch the service remotely.
    • GREETER TEAM -- Extend a warm welcome to every person who walks through the doors of our church on Sunday mornings, as you hand out programs and give direction when needed.
    • COMMUNION SERVERS -- Extend love and grace by offering the Sacrament of Communion to all who wish to receive it during our worship services on Sunday mornings.
  • PRESCHOOL & KINDERGARTEN MINISTRY (0-kindergarten) -- We have four classes on Sunday mornings (0-18months, 19-35months, 3-4 year olds, and 5-6 year olds). We need 2 volunteers to help in each class or you could sign up to be a substitute.
  • ELEMENTARY (1st-5th grade) -- Volunteers to either lead or assist leaders in the Kids’Club 1.0 and 2.0 classes on Sunday mornings.
  • YOUTH MINISTRY (6th-12th grade) -- Volunteer with students grades 6-12, on Sunday morning and for occasional events.
